While coronavirus is out there, infecting over 150,000 people, authorities have asked for schools, colleges to be shut down. People are now working from home to prevent spreading and getting infected.
And amidst all this, yesterday Steam experienced a record-breaking number of consecutive users on its platform.
According to data provided by Steam¡¯s statistics tracker, over 20,313,476 players were playing concurrently at around 8:00 PM IST yesterday, across the world.
Steam Database tweeted about this, while also revealing that there were a total of 6.2 million concurrent players currently in-game.
It linked the spike in the number of users due to the coronavirus lockdown that caused many to be stuck at home. And this totally makes sense as not only there weren¡¯t any huge game launches recently exclusive to Steam, but also with kids locked down indoors parents would have no other option but to let their kids play.
Just last month, reports revealed that Steam crossed 18,801,944 concurrent users -- a new high at that time. And now within a month, over a million more have been added to Steam¡¯s user base.
The statistics also sheds light on the games that experienced most users being logged in at the same time. The first on the list is the undisputed champion Counter-Strike: Global Offensive with 1,024,845 players at peak.
It isn¡¯t surprising considering not only is this game loved by all, but it also recently became a free to play game on Steam. Moreover, it is not very hardware hungry so basic machines can run the game on the most basic settings possible.
Next on the list with 701,632 players was Dota 2. Third on the spot was Playerunknown¡¯s battlegrounds or PUBG for PC with 525,050 players at peak. Other games on this list included ARK: Survival Reloaded, Destiny 2, Tom Clancy¡¯s Rainbow Six Seige, Monster Hunter: World, and Warframe.
