Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Vs Galaxy Watch 5 Pro: Which One Should You Pick?
Both these watches look somewhat identical, but there's a massive price difference between them -- The standard Galaxy Watch 5 sells at an MRP of Rs 33,999 whereas the Watch 5 Pro sells at an MRP of Rs 48,999.
Samsung recently announced its newest lineup of smartwatches -- Galaxy Watch 5 and the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro.
Both these watches look somewhat identical, but there's a massive price difference between them -- The standard Galaxy Watch 5 sells at an MRP of Rs 33,999 whereas the Watch 5 Pro sells at an MRP of Rs 48,999.
What¡¯s really the difference between them and which of them is the one for you? Let¡¯s find out.
Construction and design
Galaxy Watch 5 is made out of aluminium chassis whereas the Watch 5 Pro is slightly more premium, being made with titanium, which also makes it stronger.
The standard variant has a flat glass display with sapphire crystal, whereas the Watch 5 Pro¡¯s display gets sapphire crystal that¡¯s ¡®enhanced¡¯ for more durability. The design also is a little recessed with a slight lip around the edges, preventing the screen in case you're prone to accidentally hitting your watch on a wall.
Also, the Watch 5 comes with a standard loop-style strap whereas the Watch 5 Pro gets a butterfly clasp which snaps on magnetically and definitely looks more premium among the two.
Watch 5 Pro is also larger and thicker than the largest Watch 5 variant, at 46mm vs 44mm respectively.
What remains the same between the two is the level of water and dust resistance. Both the watches are 5ATM waterproof, which makes them the perfect companion for a swim. They both also possess IP68 water and dust resistance as well a MIL-STD-810H rating.
Navigation capabilities
Both Galaxy watches are LTE compatible and can run without a phone nearby. Both also come fitted with GPS and Wi-Fi, however, the Pro variant has another neat trick up its sleeve, dedicated more towards trekkers and those enjoying outdoor activities -- TrackBack.
Similar to what Apple Watch Ultra does, TrackBack on Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro allows users to navigate to points on a map and help them find their way back to the starting point, in case they get lost in the wilderness.
Fitness tracking capabilities
Both smartwatches are loaded with a plethora of fitness activity trackers. Both the watches also sport sleep monitoring with REM stages, heart rate monitoring, fall detection, ECG monitoring, blood pressure monitoring, blood oxygen and body composition -- similar to the features on Watch 4.
This year, however, you get a new sleep-tracking UI that offers more in-depth sleeping patterns and ways how you can achieve more hours of sleep time.
Pro however gets an additional feature, especially for those involved in regular cardio activities. After completing an intense cardio session, the watch will track the wearer¡¯s recovery heart rate to give a better idea on the quantity of hydration one needs to take after finishing the session
Battery performance
This is one place where the Pro truly shines. The standard Watch 5 gets around 284mAh battery (410mAh for the 44mm variant), whereas the Pro is equipped with a 590mAh battery.
And this translates to easily three to four whole days of battery life, with all activity and LTE, and Bluetooth connectivity at all times. The mileage would only be better when using it with power-saving features enabled.
Which one should you buy?
Honestly, while Galaxy Watch 5 Pro offers many upgrades over the standard Galaxy Watch 5, you really need to ask yourself what your usage would be like. For casual fitness tracking and smart capabilities, Watch 5 definitely is more than equipped.
However, if you¡¯re someone who is clumsy or works in a rugged environment where you need something a bit more heavy-duty, or if you¡¯re someone who enjoys trekking and would gain from the additional navigational features and additional battery life, Watch 5 Pro could be perfect for you.
Eventually, at this price point, you truly must ask yourself if the considerable price difference would offer you great value. Because if it doesn¡¯t, Galaxy Watch 5 would be more than enough to take care of most of your smartwatch needs with ease.
