Sundar Pichai Reads The Newspaper Every Morning, And Why Science Says It's A Good Practice
When we think of successful people, we often think what would their start of the day be like? Well, Sundar Pichai told about this to the world, in a 2016 interview, and surprisingly, it's not very different from ours.
Morning routines are different for everyone -- some are early risers, some are not so early risers and some go to sleep in the mornings. Everyone has their way of starting the day, and over the years it becomes an indispensable habit.
When we think of successful people, we often think what would their start of the day be like? Well, Sundar Pichai told about this to the world, in a Recode interview, and surprisingly, it's not very different from ours.
He starts his day at 6:30-7:00 AM, while he also mentions the fact that he isn't an early riser. And, just like many of us, he cannot start his day without a cup of tea. He prefers having an English tea followed by a hearty breakfast.
His breakfast is really important to him and he often eats eggs and some toast along with it
Another thing that he dedicatedly does is read a physical newspaper. You would think the CEO of the world's largest internet brand would prefer reading his news online, but he instead likes it old school. His newspaper of choice is the Wall Street Journal. However, if he ever has to read news online, he prefers the New York Times.
Reading physical books or paper is good
While it might seem a little odd that the CEO of an online company reads an old school print format, it really isn¡¯t. Research in the past has suggested the benefits of reading from a physical format -- it helps in better retention of the information, for a longer period of time in our minds, as opposed to reading content on the screen.
In case you were wondering if he works out in the morning, he doesn't, but that's due to time constraints. He although manages to take time out for workouts in the evening instead.
Pichai was recently handed over the reins of Google's parent company Alphabet, along with a very handsome pay raise.
Alphabet includes other brands like self-driving car technology business Waymo, health care software company Verily, high-speed gigabit internet connection network Google Fiber, advanced AI firm DeepMind, and more.
