The Year Of EVs - These Electric Hatchbacks Will Be Launched In India In 2019

Auto makers have readied their electric vehicle (EV) lineup for the Indian market and by the looks of things, the Indian commuters are set to have many EV options across every segment. And there is one particular segment that Indians love, the hatchbacks. So here is a list of electric hatchbacks that will soon be seen zooming on the Indian roads.

Nissan Leaf

The globally most renowned EV in this list, the Nissan Leaf has been a mark of clean mobility and correspondingly has been the most sold EV ever. Now Nissan plans to bring this offering to India by the middle of the year, and as and when it is done, the Leaf will be a competition to beat, with its 400 kms of range on a single charge and 147 HP power.

All this will be at a hefty cost though. The Leaf is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh. Nissan might launch the 2017 model of the Leaf first in India, as opposed to its latest 2019 version.

Renault Kwid EV

Renault K-ZE (Renault)

Renault will be bringing an all-electric version of its affordable Kwid under the Kwid Zero Emission (K-ZE) initiative. First showcased at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, the Kwid will be one of the smallest electric cars on sale in India. It is expected to be made available in India in Rs 6-8 lakh price range.

The Renault K-ZE claims a 250 kms range on a single charge and a fast charging system in place for quick charging through stations or home chargers. As per Renault, it will also feature a central touchscreen with navigation, rear view camera and parking sensors. Once launched, the all-electric car can really be an answer to the in-city commute to workplaces and back.

Tata Tiago EV

The hatchback offering by Tata Motors will also see an all-electric version being launched around July 2019. The EV has been in the production phase for quite a while now, meanwhile serving Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) in a test shift to EVs within the government bodies.

Once launched for the Indian public, the Tiago EV is expected to have a price tag of around Rs 6 lakhs. It will be offering a range of 130 kms on a single charge, and a 30kW electric powertrain for performance.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR Electric

Maruti Suzuki¡¯s much sought hatchback is also set to have its own electric drivetrain version. The company has already flagged off 50 units of the same for field tests, which have also been spotted on roads, and are set to reach the market soon.

Though not much is known about the EV from the house of Maruti Suzuki but the units spotted on roads explain that the EV will borrow its looks from the 2019 model, which has already been unveiled in Japan, Suzuki¡¯s home market, last year.

Mahindra KUV100 Electric

Though not a typical hatchback, the KUV100 is certainly an attractive option for those looking for a compact vehicle and Mahindra has confirmed that it will be getting an electric overhaul, meaning the all-electric KUV100 is another alternative for potential EV buyers.

First unveiled at the 2018 Auto Expo, the e-KUV100 will feature a 3-phase AC induction 31kW electric motor backed by a lithium-ion battery that boasts of a 140 kms range. In addition, there is a fast charging system in place that can fill up the battery by as much as 80 percent within an hour¡¯s time.
