Threads App Set To Introduce DMs Feature After Record-Breaking Sign Ups
With over 100 million user sign ups within five days, the app has a weekly active user base nearly one-fifth of Twitter.
Direct messaging is coming to Threads! After taking the internet by storm and becoming the fastest app in the history of the internet to amass 100 million sign ups within five days of launch, the so-called Twitter look alike is adding more features.
A leaked internal report from Meta suggests that DMs will make their way to the Threads app "soon," along with more features, according to a Business Insider report.
DMs coming to Threads
Earlier, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri had said that DMs weren't part of Threads' immediate plans, but the new leaked memo suggests that the Twitter competitor could add the messaging feature sooner than expected.
With over 100 million user sign ups within five days, the app has a weekly active user base nearly one-fifth of Twitter. Now, the app has more than 150 million downloads, and reached this milestone "5.5 times more quickly than the second-fastest app to do so," according to data.ai.
India accounts for a third of the app's downloads, followed by Brazil (22%), and the United States (16%). With the upcoming DM feature, users will be able to interact with followers directly on the app without returning to Instagram.

Other features that could come soon include improved search, trends, and topics, along with a chronological feed. While it's unclear when these features will actually appear on Threads, it's a clear testimony to how powerful the app already is.
Twitter could feel the heat owing to this. Elon Musk recently said that Twitter continues to lose cash because advertising has dropped by half. "We¡¯re still negative cash flow, due to (about a) 50 per cent drop in advertising revenue plus heavy debt load," Musk Tweeted on Saturday.
