TikTok India Ban: TikTok Creators Are Asking Fans To Follow Instagram, YouTube
TikTok influencers are asking fans to follow them on Instagram, Youtube
With the recent ban on 59 Chinese apps in India, several questions have been raised on the popular vlogging platform TikTok¡¯s future.
Much depends on TikTok¡¯s creator community in India to now lead the apps users in the country.
At the time of writing, TikTok has been taken down from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The existing user base of the app, however, is still able to run the app on their devices.
It is yet unclear whether the ban will extend to such devices and users. If it happens, even current users of TikTok will not be able to use the app. Creators on the platform are thus taking this time of uncertainty to shift their follower base to other channels, including Instagram and YouTube.
TikTok creators call out
Cross promotion of accounts on platforms has been taking place on all known social media platforms since long. Creators on TikTok in India, however, might not have too much time to do so now.
Hence, many popular creators can be seen promoting their Instagram accounts as well as YouTube channels on TikTok since the ban was announced on Monday.
Some of the accounts can be seen doing so in the snapshots taken from the app below.
A report by Gadgets 360 also mentions several TikTok influencers creating TikTok videos on Instagram tutorials to help their following shift to the Facebook-owned platform. Others have asked their followers to manually download the videos on TikTok
With the future of the app in a jeopardy in India, it only makes sense for the community to try other platforms. In the past, such short-lived bans on the TikTok app have had no big impact on its user base of more than 2 billion.
But with tensions escalating on the fronts of India and China and the app being pointed out for its safety and privacy concerns, the situation this time is expected to be more serious than before.
TikTok, in its defense, has issued a statement on the app¡¯s compliance to safety standard. Indian government¡¯s reaction to the same is yet awaited. For now, the 'YouTube vs TikTok' debate seems to be leaning to the former's side.
