TikTok Ratings Rise From 1.2 to 1.6 As Google Deletes Over A Million Reviews
The hate for TikTok was real, and it sure did work for a while.
In the last few weeks, TikTok and its content creators haven¡¯t been having the best time of their life.
Amid severe meme-attacks and trending hate campaigns to take down the video streaming platform, the ratings of the app dropped from a decent 4.9 to an embarrassing 1.2.
The hate for TikTok was real, and it sure did work for a while. However, it looks like it is slowing getting back on track, as the ratings have slowly climbed to 1.6. This was pointed out by Twitter user Norbert Elekes from Dublin, Ireland.
He spotted that Google has actually gone ahead and deleted over a million reviews overnight to cause this hike in ratings.
The Carry Minati Effect
In case you are completely oblivious to this, let me give you a small refresher. A few weeks ago, YouTuber Carry Minati dissed TikTok and the content creators on the platform for making cringy content and talking smack about the YouTube community. The video managed to achieve a whopping 70 million views in just a few days while also considerably increasing Carry Minati¡¯s subscriber base.
Carry¡¯s video was pulled down a few days later by YouTube on the grounds of using foul language and homophobic slurs. This rose into a movement by Carry¡¯s followers to bombard the PlayStore with negative reviews for the app, bringing down the rating to a pulp.
The hate always existed
People expressed hate for the platform for the content creators promoting rape, communal disharmony, acid attacks, among other negative themes on the platform. People have also expressed dislike for the app due to its Chinese origins while promoting ¡®Vocal for Local¡¯ to promote Indian brands.
It is also crucial to note that the app has seen a considerable drop in downloads -- the downloads fell from 34 percent in April to just 28 percent in May, according to data shared by app intelligence firm Sensor Tower with ET.
