India's Top Google Searches In 2021: Covid, Cricket And Regional Cinema Made Waves

If you've said the words "wait, let me Google it" every time you felt compelled to verify a piece of information over the course of 2021, you're among millions who use the Google search engine every day to find answers.

Recently, Google revealed the list of the most Googled items on its search engine in India in 2021.

Cricket took the top spot for all searches on Google, along with pandemic-related questions, especially given the harrowing nature of the second wave this summer which crippled the country's healthcare system.

Google's "Year In Search" results show that the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the ICC T20 World Cup were among the toppers for most Googled items on the search engine.

The overall top 10 items Googled in India are as follows:

3. ICC T20 World Cup
4. Euro Cup
5. Tokyo Olympics
6. COVID vaccine
7. Free Fire redeem code
8. Copa America

Cricket remains king

While IPL and T20 related searches remained the focus of most searches on Google, Indian users also maintained interest in football, Googling words like Euro Cup and Copa America.

In addition, Tokyo Olympics were also heavily searched for on the Google engine.

Covid-19 on Google

Google "near me" search feature was used by Indians to find out nearby "Covid hospital" healthcare centres that were offering support for Covid patients. In addition, users also searched for "Covid vaccines" and "Covid tests.

A spike was also seen in search queries for oxygen cylinders and CT scans "near me" owing to the devastating wave of Covid-19. People also Googled nearby food delivery and tiffin services as the country went into lockdown mode.

"How to" Google searches

Users in India also Googled the keywords for how to register for a Covid-19 vaccine in India, how to download the vaccine certificate from CoWin and to increase the oxygen level for a Covid patient.

In the "what is" category, Indian Googlers searched for "what is Black Fungus" followed by "what is Taliban." Other top "what is" Google searches include "what is remdesivir" and "what is the factorial of hundred."

Entertainment, duh!

Regional cinema was the largest driver of searches on Google this year. The top spot in the movies list was taken by "Jai Bhim," a Tamil film, followed by Bollywood's "Shershaah." People also ardently Googled "Radhe" and "Bell Bottom."

Hollywood films also made it on the most Googled list, with names like "Godzilla vs Kong" and "Eternals."
