TRAI Data Shows Reliance Jio Gained Nearly 4 Million Active Subscribers in April
Jio gained more subscribers than its competitors, keeping its number 4 rank among telecom service providers in India.
Reliance Jio gained nearly 4 million new subscribers in April, the highest among all its competitors, taking its monthly user base to over 112 million subscribers.
According to a new report by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the 3.87 million people subscribing to Jio is actually lower than March¡¯s figure of 5.83 million.
This keeps the company at its number 4 position in India, with Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, and Idea Cellular keeping their top spots, with 23.54 percent, 17.86 percent and 16.69 percent of shares respectively.
Though the number of new active subscribers was just under 4 million, Reliance Jio actually gained 4.41 million new customers in April, even as Reliance Communications, Tata Teleservices, and Telenor lost more than a million customers each, and Airtel lost 0.3 million that month.
TRAI¡¯s data also shows that Jio was the top-ranked wireless broadband provider with 112.55 million customers. Airtel grabbed second place with 52.25 million, while Vodafone with its 39.76 million and Idea with 24.09 million rounded out the top four spots.
Data shows Jio¡¯s free offers announced in September last year helped it snatch up over 100 million subscribers in just 170 days, many of whom were previously customers of other telecom providers, a move that shook the industry with a new wave of competitive pricing schemes.
