Trump Threatens To 'Close Down' Social Media, After Twitter Flags His Tweet For False Claim
Donald Trump has now threatened to shut down social media platforms.
Donald Trump has the time of his life, tweeting about things on his Twitter handle -- even though some of it has no facts backing it whatsoever.
People have been asking Twitter to flag and take down his baseless tweets, but Twitter didn¡¯t do anything, until today, when it flagged one of his tweets and Trump didn¡¯t like it at all.
Donald Trump has now threatened to shut down social media platforms that go against his agenda.
Reported first by the Independent, he said through his tweet, ¡°Republicans feel that Social Media Platforms totally silence conservatives voices. We will strongly regulate, or close them down, before we can ever allow this to happen. We saw what they attempted to do, and failed, in 2016. We can¡¯t let a more sophisticated version of that happen again. Just like we can¡¯t let large scale Mail-In Ballots take root in our Country. It would be a free for all on cheating, forgery and the theft of Ballots. Whoever cheated the most would win. Likewise, Social Media. Clean up your act, NOW!!!!¡±
The entire fuss is about a series of tweets made by POTUS himself with regards to Mail-In Ballots and how they¡¯d enable a rigged election.
Twitter flagged this with a small click button below the aforementioned tweets stating, ¡°Get the facts about mail-in ballots.¡±
It acknowledged that even though Trump¡¯s tweet "is not in violation of the Twitter Rules as it does not directly try to dissuade people from voting ¡ª it does, however, contain misleading information about the voting process, specifically mail-in ballots, and we¡¯re offering more context to the public."
While this might not be the first time Trump has spoken on the platform without any factual base, this was the first time Twitter flagged one of his posts and from the looks of it, he isn¡¯t liking it one bit. He said in one of his tweets, ¡°Twitter is completely stifling FREE SPEECH, and I, as President, will not allow it to happen!¡±
Well, clearly shutting down platforms that today are a medium for free speech by the president of one of the largest democracies in the world won¡¯t look good.
