Watch: Guy In A Roller Coaster Superbly Catches A Dropped Phone Flying Past At 134 Kmph

Samuel Kempf, a New Zealander from the island's southern port city of Timaru, plays on his country's fistball team, a European sport.

And recently, his skills came in handy when he made a miraculous save off the field. Luckily, there was a camera to catch it.

Kempf was in Switzerland last month, representing his country in the Fistballing World Championship. As part of his downtime, he decided to visit the PortAventura theme park in Barcelona with family and friends recently. There, they went on the biggest ride in the place, a massive roller coaster called Shambala.

And that's when something amazing happened.

"The guy two rows ahead of me, as the ride started doing its ascent before it drops, he had his phone out and he dropped it and it just landed at the bottom of his cart," Kempf told local media. "He was trying to reach down and grab it but because he was locked in he couldn't reach it and I just jokingly said to my brother and the people we were with 'get ready to catch'."

Then, while 80 m off the ground and moving at 134 km/h, Kempf's joke turned into a real-life YouTube highlight. He actually caught the phone flying past him!

"The ride started and I totally forgot about it because I was just in the moment 'cause it was such a good ride and then after the first drop we rose up and I just saw the phone drift across my view so I reached out and managed to catch it," Kempf said. "I was sitting next to my cousin and she said she saw it but was too scared to let go so she was just gonna let it drop."

When they were safely back on the ground, Kempf returned the phone to the guy who had dropped it, who was searching the ground nearby expecting it to have dropped. Needless to say he was surprised. "He couldn't believe it, he gave me a big hug," Kempf said.

Luckily for Kempf, his heroic achievement wasn't missed. It turns out the rollercoaster had a camera attached to the cart to catch riders' reactions, and it caught the whole thing. When the booth staff saw the clip their jaws dropped.

"The funniest reaction was when we had got off the roller coaster and you go down to look at the photos and videos they take and half the people there seemed to be watching our screen and then everyone started cheering and clapping when it happened,"Kempf said.

The owner of the phone eventually bought the video for Kempf as a "thank you", and he uploaded it on YouTube. It's since received over 480,000 views in just 24 hours, at the time of writing.
