WhatsApp on Tuesday announced a series of updates to its Status feature. The Meta-owned messaging platform's new features for your status updates aim to make it a more secure and customisable offering.
The new features include an audience selector, voice messages, status reactions for quick responses, status profile rings, and link previews for more visual status updates.
"Status" on WhatsApp works the same way Stories work on Instagram or literally any other platform at this point. After 24 hours of being posted, Status disappears from your WhatsApp. In a press release, WhatsApp claimed that WhatsApp Status is protected by end-to-end encryption just like calls and messages.
Now, a slew of new features can make the experience even more personalised and secure.
Private Audience Selector
The Private Audience Selector is built to allow users to share their Status with only a certain set of people. It's no surprise that not all shoe fits all, the same is also true for your social media content. " We¡¯re providing you with the flexibility to update your privacy settings per status so you can choose who views your status each time you update it," WhatsApp wrote. The most recent audience selection will be logged as the default for your next update.
Voice Status
Now, WhatsApp users can record and share messages up to 30 seconds on the platform. "Voice status can be used for sending more personal updates, especially if you feel more comfortable expressing yourself by talking rather than typing," the company wrote.

Status Reactions
Love reacting to everything? This one's for you!
The new Status Reactions feature allows users to quickly respond to status updates from your friends and contacts. Now, WhatsApp users can quickly reply to any status by swiping up and tapping on one of eight emoji reactions. In addition, users can reply to a status with text, voice messages, and stickers.
Status Profile Rings for new updates
The new status profile informs users of new Status updates from their loved ones, straight from the chat list. "This ring will be present around your contact¡¯s profile picture whenever they share a status update. It will be visible in the chat lists, group participant lists, and contact info," WhatsApp wrote.

Link Previews
It's about time! WhatsApp can now register a preview of any link that you decide to share on your Status. This way, the entire exercise is more visually appealing and also allows users to see what they might be about to click on.
The new updates are now rolling out to users around the world and everyone should be able to access these features in the near-future.
