WhatsApp Working On New ¡®View Once¡¯ Disappearing Messages Feature: All You Need To Know
This message cannot be copied, forwarded or even saved for future perusal
WhatsApp is now working on a feature that would allow the recipient of the text to see the message only once, post which the message would disappear forever, reveals a WABetaInfo report.
This feature is not very different from what we¡¯ve seen Snapchat do all this while. However, with WhatsApp, the approach is rather interesting. The feature was spotted on the recently rolled-out Android beta version 2.22.25.20.
WABetaInfo reveals that WhatsApp has changed the send button by adding a small lock on it. Long pressing would enable the View Once feature for the message. The recipient will be warned of the view-once-enabled message before reading it, so as to make sure to read it with all attention. Once the message is read, it would automatically disappear.
The feature could really come in handy while sharing confidential information with someone you don¡¯t know so well, but can¡¯t avoid not sharing the information entirely. This could add a second layer of security to your personal information.
According to WABetaInfo, this message cannot be copied, forwarded or even saved for future perusal. While during the beta, users were able to take screenshots. However, this could be prevented when the feature finally rolls out or else it would render the premise of the feature moot.
There is no tentative timeline for the feature to surface in a stable build as of now since WhatsApp could still be tweaking the UI for it.
