Windows 7 Still Second Most Popular PC Operating System In The World
When though Windows 7 saw a drop in user base from 22.77 percent to 20.41 percent, yet it retained the second position.
When it comes to PC operating systems, the one that has gotten quite popular these days is Windows 10. It is the OS that is being shipped on every new computer you purchase today.
Sure, macOS and Linux have its own separate user base, Microsoft¡¯s Windows is surely the one most synonymous with PCs.
However before Windows 10 was all in vogue, the OS that was the most popular was Windows 7. So much so that people were adamant on not switching due to its user experience and reliability (also Windows 8 and 8.1 with their new UI had a steep learning curve). Even when Microsoft offered free upgrades people loved using Windows 7.
And even with Microsoft shutting down support for Windows 7 this year, several organisations have continued to use Windows 7. So much so that it continues to become the second most preferred operating system for PCs.
This is according to a survey by NetmarketShare which has revealed that even though Windows 7 saw a drop in user base from 22.77 percent to 20.41 percent, yet it retained the second position. Windows 10 on the other hand saw a considerable increase in the number of users at 64.04 percent (up from 61.26 percent last month).
MacOS X 10.15 holds the third spot with 4.88 percent, followed by Windows 8.1 at 2.81 percent. Astonishingly, 0.87 percent of people are still using WindowsXP, which is scary considering how unprepared it is against cyberattacks of today¡¯s age.
Several Windows 7 users jumped the ship when Microsoft initially announced that it will be phasing out Windows 7 by offering a free upgrade to Windows 10. Surprisingly, this free upgrade is still available to users. All they need to do is download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft¡¯s website and run the program.
After running, it will give you an option to either upgrade the PC or create an installation media. Choose the former, go through the instructions and you¡¯re pretty much good to go. Just make sure to create a backup of your data beforehand to be on a safer side.
