Indian Researchers Develop Compound To Treat Autism Much Better Than Before
The team behind this creation involved Vijaya Verma, M. J. Vijay Kumar, Kavita Sharma, Sridhar Rajaram, Ravi Muddashetty, Ravi Manjithaya, Thomas Behnisch, and James P. Clement.
Indian researchers have developed a compound that promises to offer better treatment for those suffering from Autism Spectrum Disorder, improving their daily activities.

Developed at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, the compound named 6BIO has shown potential to restore neuronal function, learning and memory, as well as considerably reduce epileptic seizures in a mouse model.

As per the study, the compound managed to restore the neural functions not only when it was administered during the development (1to 2 years) and childhood stages (3 to 6 years) but also post mid-childhood (7 to 11 years), when most of the brain regions are considered to have formed fully.
Studies in the past have linked disruption in optimal brain development -- specifically with neuronal connections -- during early stages of development as one of the main contributors for the disorder.

Due to altered brain development, information processing isn¡¯t occurring at the levels it normally does and even understanding simple tasks becomes challenging for patients.
However, with the help of electrophysiology and behavioural experiments, researchers have shown that the novel compound is capable of restoring the information processing in the mouse model, boosting its potential as a therapeutic to treat the disorder.
