And now a mattress company dubbed Otty, teamed up with Hussain Abdeh -- a Clinical Director and Superintendent Pharmacist at Medicine Direct, to show just how bad not getting enough sleep could be for the human body.

24 hours
The first graphics looks at the effect on the body after 24 hours of poor sleep. This results in some common side effects such as drowsiness, reducing your brain¡¯s processing and making it harder to concentrate. You would also tend to get more irritable while reacting to the simplest situations.
Even the eyes of the individuals end up getting puffy due to water imbalance. The body reacts in the way of triggering neurological reflexes causing tremors and muscle twitching. Also one of the effects is a reduction of sex drive, feeling too exhausted to be aroused.

72 hours
After not getting a good amount of sleep for 72 hours, our brain starts having complex hallucinations, making you feel a low mood, even paranoia due to an impaired sense of perception. People have also felt depersonalisation -- the feeling of being detached from the body, losing control over what you can see, think and do.
Eyes too continue to get affected, causing blurry vision. Moreover, the skin starts to get paler as blood vessels begin to constrict to save energy in the body. The muscle contraction seen in the 24 hour period could get more acute, causing even the eyes to ache from lack of sleep.

One week of sleep deprivation severely impacts the brain putting it in a state of sleep deprivation psychosis -- the feeling of detachment from the present becomes more acute and most people are unable to feel any kind of emotion.
The skin on the other hand starts to get much drier due to affected moisture levels from the sleep deprivation and changing the natural PH balance. Even the quality of collagen the body produces drops, causing wrinkles to form on the skin.
