The reading beats the previous record on the Earth's southernmost continent of 63.5 degrees Fahrenheit (17.5ˇăC) in March 2015 according to the Argentine station Esperanza.
Argentina's national meteorological service (SMN) broke the news on their Twitter handle, when they reported witnessing a possible record-high temperature reading of 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18.3 degrees Celsius) on February 6, taken at the Esperanza research base which is situated on the northern Antarctic peninsula.
