Today, with COVID-19 spreading, the world is really struggling through a tough time. People are locked down in their homes and everything seems to have come to an odd halt. As of now this global pandemic has infected over 209,000 and killed over 8000 people.
However, what if I told you, a Simpson¡¯s episode almost predicted this around twenty-seven years ago?
Simpsons has been known to predict the future in its episodes, not once but several instances. From predicting Donald Trump becoming the president of the United States, to the discovery of higgs boson equation to even predicting the Ebola outbreak.
And now, people on twitter have found an episode that is awfully similar to the situation the whole world is in right now. It isn¡¯t exactly the same, but almost is.
The Simpson episode is from 1993, season 4 episode named, ¡®Marge In Chains¡¯. The episode shows some factory workers in Japan, packing a juicer that is to be shipped to the US (or rather, Springfield).
However, one of the two workers is sick and while conversing with his colleague, he accidentally coughs in the box itself, and later sealing it which gets sent to the truck for shipment.
The boxes then arrive in Springfield (of course) with Homer desperately awaiting one. As soon as he opens it, he gets infected. In another scene, school principal Skinner gets a juicer for his mom, but as he goes to open it, he too gets infected.
While a news presenter in the episode calls it ¡®Osaka Virus¡¯ since it originated from Japan, unlike Wuhan in Hubei Province, China, where COVID-19 actually came from.
But the way the disease spread and affected everyone looks very similar to what we all are experiencing today, with the only cure being resting indoors.
