Find Out What Will Happen To Your Body If Earth Goes Without Oxygen For A Mere 5 Seconds
When people discovered what would happen to their bodies if the earth abruptly stopped producing oxygen for a brief period of time, they were horrified.
We all know that oxygen is necessary for life and that depriving ourselves of it for extended periods of time will ultimately result in death. We might not realize how crucial it is, though, and it would be horrifying if our planet's atmosphere vanished entirely for just five seconds.
When people discovered what would happen to their bodies if the earth abruptly stopped producing oxygen for a brief period of time, they were horrified.
Who Explained The Horrifying Effects?
A scientist from the University of British Columbia, Andrew Cote, explained what would happen.
What Would Happen?
Since the ozone layer above us is mostly composed of molecular oxygen, which shields us from the majority of UV rays coming from the sun, we would first all receive sunburns. We're going to get burned if it continues. Without oxygen, all combustion engines would come to a stop.
That might not be a major deal if you¡¯re in the car sitting at traffic lights, but if you¡¯re on an airplane or in a truck on the freeway, you¡¯re going to notice.
Fascinatingly, Cote claims that every particle of unwelded metal would quickly weld to each other, as metal is generally coated with a layer of oxidation, therefore without that oxygen, they would link without a liquid stage.
How Would It Affect Our Bodies?
First of all, we would lose a lot of air pressure, which would cause our inner ear to burst. So, each of us will lose a significant amount of hearing. Concrete buildings will also be in trouble. Without oxygen, concrete cannot maintain its rigidity.
Geoffrey Widdinson, a Process Engineer from Texas, also explained, ¡°In terms of breathing, we probably wouldn't notice. Our bodies can't detect oxygen deficiency, we can only detect high carbon dioxide levels. As long as CO2 isn't building up in our blood, we don't feel like we're suffocating.¡±
