China's Wuhan Parties In Huge Crowds, Even As World Struggles With COVID-19

Nearly eight months on, our world continues to struggle with the COVID-19 pandemic. What started in a small market in Wuhan, Hubei province in China, has crippled the whole world, crumbling economies and claiming the lives of people while infecting so many more.
Many nations, including India, are on high alert, even with some easements in place, with authorities still reminding us to maintain social distancing and cover mouths with face masks. However, people from the region that initiated the havoc seem to be enjoying their lives like nothing ever happened.
A recent report by AFP shows how people in Wuhan are having the time of their lives in a water park music concert with huge crowds. The images are from the Wuhan Maya Beach Water Park where people clearly aren¡¯t following any sort of social-distancing norms, nor seen wearing face masks.
Social distancing? What is that?
The AFP report highlights how the theme park was capped at 50 percent of its normal capacity -- going strictly against the social distancing norms that the World Health Organisation suggests.
Moreover, it is also offering deals like half-priced discounts for female visitors to encourage more people to attend the park, adding more fuel to the fire.
What¡¯s even more astonishing is that not one individual from the hundreds seen in the photo seem to be wearing face masks or any kind of face protection (except swimming goggles) to save themselves from the novel coronavirus.
This is the same region in China that once had over 68,000 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 claiming over 4,512 lives in the province.
Encouraging more travel across the province
Lockdown in Wuhan was lifted in April and since mid-May, authorities haven¡¯t come across even a single case of the novel coronavirus in Hubei province. In fact, authorities are actually encouraging people to travel to Hubei province, with the government offering free entry to over 400 tourist sites around Hubei.
While it is great that Wuhan is trying to bring its life back to normal, completely ignoring social distancing norms and putting so many lives at risk is surely not the way to go.
