Akka Technologies is looking to woo some buyers like Boeing Co. for its flying train concept known as 'Link & Fly'.
Now if you think that this is another futuristic idea that might not see the light, hold that thought. The concept video received the Product Marketing category at the last Aerospace Festival Etoiles et des Ailes.
The Concept behind Link & Fly is quite simple. The wings are detachable from the main body of the aircraft. The body will function as a pod and can carry passengers from the nearest train station to the airport.
The wings and top mounted engines will attach to the body and the train-plane will take off.
The main body seems to be quite versatile too - the chairs can be removed to turn it into a freight carrier.

This concept, if applied in real life will make travelling from railway stations to airports and then on to the final destination easier than ever.
Companies are taking interest in such ideas, but Akka actually wants to catch the attention of the aerospace agencies and hopes they will develop the idea.
How is this a viable solution for India?
India has the fourth largest railway network in the world and is also home to one of the fastest growing aviation sector. This concept can increase the number of flights in our country as we can have a large number of pods that are compatible with current rail network.
