Women facing sexual harassment on a daily basis, is sad but true in our country. From workplaces to public ones, we have been subjected to harassment. In spite of the government taking steps to make public transport safer for women (read: women-only compartments), no place is safe for them.
However, women have had enough and it's time for such culprits to be shamed and brought to justice.
The most recent incident highlighting the disgust and trauma that sexual harassment brings to a person is that of a 21-year-old girl who was travelling from Bengaluru to Hassan in a KSRTC bus.
According to TOI, the conductor came and sat next to the girl when she boarded the bus. He then started touching her inappropriately and told her to keep quiet or else it will be her who'll be tainted.
The girl decided to gather proof of the same and started recording the bus conductor's lewd actions on her phone. However, when he learnt that she was recording him, he reportedly snatched her phone and took her number so that she could 'stay in touch' with him.
The girl got up near Belur Cross and slapped the conductor on his face and got off the bus. Then she boarded another bus and forwarded the video to her parents and friends. After filing a police complaint, the girl and her family and friends waited at Yeshwantpur bus stand for the bus to return from Hassan and thrashed the conductor once they found him.
He was later handed over to the police. He has been recognised as Esubu Ali Tallura, 33, who hails from Belagavi. Reports also add that he has been suspended by KSRTC along with pending departmental investigation.
