Barbie Hsu's family faces backlash for keeping her ashes at the residential complex: 'Don't let your selfishness affect...'
Barbie Hsu's demise has now been mired in controversy after her family decided to keep her ashes at home before finding her a suitable burial place. Her body was cremated on February 5 in Japan, and her body was brought back home by her husband DJ Koo and her family.

The family of late Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu has announced plans to bury her ashes in an eco-friendly manner, in accordance with Taiwan's official burial regulations. The Meteor Garden actress' sister recently shared a statement, revealing that the family is currently applying for a suitable resting place through local authorities.
Dee Hsu said that Barbie had expressed her desire for an eco-friendly burial during her lifetime, and the family shares the same wish. "My sister's ashes are only being temporarily kept at her home. Soon, our family will return her to nature," Dee Hsu stated.
However, the family's decision to bring Barbie's ashes home to her luxury apartment in Taipei's Xinyi District without an official burial ceremony has come under fire.

According to a Kbizoom report, the move has sparked a strong backlash from neighbours who have expressed discomfort and criticism over the family's plans, with some accusing them of being selfish and dismissive of community residents' feelings.
The report added that some neighbours have publicly criticised Dee Hsu, questioning why she did not bring the ashes to her own home rather than placing them in a residential complex where others reside. "If it were their private villa, they could place ten urns there, and no one would care. But please, don't let your selfishness affect the quality of life of other residents," one person said, as the family has received numerous petitions from surrounding residents.
Netizens come out in Barbie Hsu's family's support
Despite the controversy, many netizens have come out in support of the Hsu family's decision to arrange a proper burial for Barbie's ashes. According to traditional Taiwanese beliefs, keeping a deceased person's ashes at home is considered bad luck and can harm the feng shui and well-being of the living. By arranging a proper burial, the family can help to mitigate these negative effects and ensure a more peaceful and respectful resting place for Barbie. Additionally, having a burial site would allow the late actress' fans to visit her and offer their condolences.
Following her passing on February 1 due to Influenza A-related complications, Barbie Hsu's body was cremated in Japan on February 3, following her family's wishes. Two days later, on February 5, her husband, DJ Koo, and her family brought her ashes back to Taiwan via a private jet. The family's decision to transport the ashes in this manner was likely done to ensure a private and dignified return for Barbie.
