Sandhya Arghya is performed to honour Lord Surya and thank him for his life-giving energy. During this time, women prepare traditional foods, including thekua (a sweet made from wheat), rice pudding, and seasonal fruits, which are then offered as bhog or prasad to the deity.

After preparing the offerings, families go to rivers or ponds for a ritual bath, believed to purify both body and soul. Together, they perform the Sandhya Arghya, offering the prasad and lighting a diya to symbolise hope and devotion.

The Sandhya Arghya ceremony takes place at sunset, with devotees filling bamboo baskets (known as soops) with fruits, thekua, and other sweets, which are then offered to the setting sun. A diya is lit near the offerings, and traditional hymns are sung to praise Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya. This evening ritual unites families, allowing them to share in blessings and devotion.

Once the prayers are complete, the prasad is first offered to the deities, and after all rituals are finished, it is shared among family members and other devotees, symbolising unity and goodwill.
