In a shocking incident, a 36-year-old woman from Zhejiang province in eastern China found that she was eight months pregnant during a regular doctor visit.
The Chinese woman named Gong and her husband had been trying to conceive for a long time, according to a report by the South China Morning Post. During the process, they even tried in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatment for the same. The doctors advised Gong to lose weight if she wanted to conceive a baby.
Life took unexpected turns for a 36-year-old Chinese woman
The couple was disheartened by her inability to conceive, and Gong believed that the dream of having a baby was no longer possible until life took an unexpected turn for her.
As per the report, in early December of the previous year, Gong experienced numbness in one of her hands, due to which she visited a small clinic. After checking her blood pressure, which was really high, is when the doctors learnt that Gong was pregnant.
Chinese woman missed her periods for several months
The doctors during the consultation discovered that Gong had missed her periods for several months. The doctor advised her to take an ultrasound test.
The ultrasound results revealed a miraculous surprise: Gong was carrying an 8.5-month-old foetus weighing 2 kilograms.
Finally, due to her high blood pressure, doctors performed the surgery in just four hours to safely deliver the baby. As per the report, the baby is now healthy.
Can you be pregnant without any symptoms?
According to the Cleveland Clinic, there is a term called 'cryptic pregnancy,' which is a type of pregnancy when a woman doesn't know she is pregnant. In some cases, a person may only realise they are pregnant because labour begins.
Most people realise that they are pregnant somewhere between four and 12 weeks of pregnancy. This could be due to the symptoms of pregnancy or because they missed their periods.
How common is cryptic pregnancy?
Cryptic pregnancies are rare and uncommon. According to studies, about 1 in 475 pregnancies go unnoticed until about 20 weeks of gestation. Reports also say that about 1 in 2,500 pregnancies go unnoticed until delivery.
