Ready to kick off Diwali 2024 with major festive vibes? Starting with Dhanteras, falling on October 29th, it¡¯s here to get the celebrations rolling with gold, glam, and some serious positive energy. This special day, marked on the 13th lunar day of Krishna Paksha, is all about wealth (aka Dhan) and honouring Goddess Lakshmi and God Kubera, the queen of prosperity, alongside Lord Ganesha, the go-to for wisdom.
Rituals that set the vibe
The day begins with an early morning bath to cleanse away negativity, followed by an intense house cleaning spree. A spick-and-span home is believed to attract prosperity, so yes, that deep-cleaning vibe is more than just a chore. Plus, it's your golden opportunity to craft that Insta-worthy rangoli or set up vibrant flower arrangements that invite Lakshmi¡¯s blessings.
The sacred setup
Once your space is glowing, the next step is setting up the altar. Choose a clean, well-lit spot to place idols of Lord Kubera, Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi, surrounded by flowers, fruits, and sweets. Light up a ghee diya, symbolising the eradication of darkness (both literal and spiritual), and get ready for the main event ¨C calling upon the deities.
Puja power
Start with Lord Ganesha, asking him to clear the path of obstacles, then invite Goddess Lakshmi into your home with full devotion. Recite mantras and offer sweets, fruits, and flowers to honor their presence. And then mainly, request Lord Kubera to give you and your family a treasure for wealth. The puja concludes with a grand aarti, where diyas are waved in reverence, followed by sharing prasad with your family and friends to spread that festive cheer.
Evening vibes & prosperity invites
The celebration continues into the evening with families drawing footprints at the entrance, symbolising Lakshmi¡¯s arrival. It¡¯s also the prime time for shopping¡ªwhether it¡¯s a new piece of jewelry or fancy utensils¡ªsignifying an invitation to wealth into your home.
