Diddy once revealed why he dated Jennifer Lopez after Kim Porter break-up: 'I thought I will test the waters'

Many Hollywood celebrities are scared for their future as the internet continues to dive deep into their alleged links with Diddy; however, if there was one celeb whose connection to the embattled rapper has dragged them through the mud, it's Jennifer Lopez. J.Lo and Diddy dated for two years from 1999 to 2001, and their high-profile relationship ignited a tabloid frenzy.

From his white parties to award ceremonies, the Unstoppable star would play the hip-hop mogul's plus one at almost every event. Their pictures from back in the day had everyone believing they were head over heels for each other, but did you know Diddy once admitted he dated Lopez despite being in love with his former girlfriend Kim Porter? When Diddy revealed the real reason behind dating Jennifer Lopez

In a 2007 interview with Essence, Diddy, whose real name is Sean Combs, admitted that he hoped Porter would come running after him if she saw him with Lopez. While the I'll Be Missing You rapper described Lopez a perfect match, he was still hung up on Kim. ¡°I thought, 'I'll test the waters, and hopefully Kim will see I'm serious and come running after me," the now-disgraced musician told the publication.

However, Porter was well aware of Diddy's intentions but didn't pay much heed to it. In the same interview, she confirmed, ¡°I knew what was really going on. He was still in love with me.¡± Diddy also shared his reasons for falling in love with Porter. He said that he is used to being applauded but Kim was just too cool.

About Kim Porter and Diddy's relationship

Kim Porter was to Diddy what Ben Affleck is to Jennifer Lopez. Their on-again, off-again relationship often grabbed eyeballs. The couple, who began dating in the '90s, welcomed their first child, a son named Christian Casey, together in 1998. They broke up in 1999 and right after that, Diddy got together with Lopez. He reconciled with Porter in 2003, two years after parting ways with the Atlas star. In December 2006, they welcomed twin daughters, D'Lila Star and Jessie James.

Combs and Porter split for good in 2007. "In ending this relationship, I made a decision that was in the best interest of myself, Sean and our family. I look forward to moving on with my life and my career and wish him prosperity, health and happiness in life and in love. We will remain friends and committed parents to our children," Porter said in a statement at the time.

For those who may not be aware, Porter was found dead in her home on November 15, 2018. She was 47.

About Diddy's arrest

Sean "Diddy" Combs was indicted on multiple charges, including sex trafficking and racketeering, in September 2024. He is also facing a string of sexual assault allegations in a series of lawsuits filed against him. He is currently being held without bail in MDC-Brooklyn. He will go on trial on May 5, 2024.
