As the apocalyptic haze engulfs all of Delhi NCR, people living in the 'gas chamber' are growing angrier by the day.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the national capital's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) stood at 494 at 4pm on Sunday, the highest since November 6, 2016 when it was 497.

A public health emergency was also declared in the capital on Friday and construction activity has been banned until November 5.
In this dismal scenario, people say that Delhi is undeserving of the national capital status. While some suggested cities like Nagpur, Bengaluru or Chennai as alternatives, others cited umpteen reasons why Delhi should forgo the title.

This entire choking of Delhi makes me see what is happening around the world. Indonesia is shifting it's capital. Australia has Canberra for smooth admin functioning only. Why not have two to four capitals in India?

Leaving Delhi is not the solution to the problem. Changing mindset of people who are polluting Delhi is the answer. Tugalaq ( great economist) left Delhi as capital and came back. Give solution to the problem please!!! https://t.co/zU2jhrhAa8

India should consider switching its capital from Delhi to a new UT which should be carved out at the junction of UP, MP, Chattisgarh, and Bihar. It will reduce pressure on Delhi and would help in development of areas nearby which are most underdeveloped

From traffic problems, pollution, to safety of women, there is a range of issues that have affected the national capital's reputation; pollution has pushed things to the point of saturation.
A new analysis of the Air Quality Life Index (AQLI), produced by the Energy Policy Institute at the University of Chicago (EPIC), shows the average citizen living in the Indo-Gangetic Plain (IGP) region of India, can expect to lose about 7 years of life expectancy because of air quality which fails to meet the World Health Organization's (WHO) guideline for fine particulate pollution.
This is due to a 72 percent increase in pollution from 1998 to 2016, in the region that is home to about 40 percent of India's population.
