Day 12 - How Despite So Many Conscious Efforts, I Failed
By the end of this campaign I should be able to keep at least 50 from using straws. Within the last two days I have made 2 people give up on straw L Remember this sea turtle who bled while having a straw pulled from his nose #NotAPlastoholic.
Let me be honest with you, this crusade against plastic is just getting tough day by day. Every day I wake up and tell myself that today has to be one of those days where I am really making a difference and this is the spirit that keeps me going through the day, but yesterday I failed.
Plastic/dssc
I went to the canteen to buy a glass of cold coffee. Now all this while I have been taking it in paper glasses, a better substitute of plastic, and yesterday it was no different, but I ended up using a straw. I have been precariously particular about not buying straws because there are quite useless in nature - a detailed I missed mentioning while placing the order.

So, yesterday was the day I accidentally failed, used a star and broke the pledge that I took at the beginning of this month. When I was given the glass with a straw in it, I politely asked the shopkeeper to take it back and in return, he simply asked me to throw it away.
My purpose for returning the straw was all about making a statement that I have chosen not to use it, but for shopkeepers who buy it at meagre amounts, it's too much product for a very little price, which is why he did not bother. It is at that moment that the epiphany struck me, that most of our battles are a journey and not a destination we can reach. At the beginning of the campaign, I thought that that giving up on straw was the easiest, but it's not after all.
