Officials said that a 10-year-old deer was found dead in a national park in Nan province, which is around 630 km north of the capital, Bangkok. Autopsy reports of the deer showed ¡°plastic bags in the stomach, which is one of the causes of his death,¡± said Kriangsak Thanompun, director of the protected region in the Khun Sathan National Park.
According to the photos that were provided by the national park, the plastic bags contained coffee grounds, instant noodle packaging, garbage bags, towels and also underwear. The loss of the wild deer is "another tragedy", Kriangsak said. "It shows we have to take seriously and reduce... single-use plastic," he said, calling for "nature-friendly products" to be used instead.
Months ago, a young baby dugong, Mariam, whose recovery won hearts online, also succumbed to her infections due to bits of plastic in her stomach, in Thailand . The sick animal died after going into shock and efforts to resuscitate her failed.
Mariam washed up in the shallow waters off Southwestern Thailand, months ago and was in a nursing tank. She was cared for by a team of veterinarians and marine experts, according to AFP. Photos of her nuzzling playfully next to rescuers also went viral.
Do we need any more proof of the fact that plastic is literally choking the life out of creatures? And guess who is responsible for all of this?
