Watch: Scary Video Shows Scuba Divers Caught In A Current During An Earthquake Underwater
Scuba divers were unlucky enough to be a part of a recent earthquake. A video was shared on TikTok showing the divers going about their business.
Unfortunately, we're all too aware of the effects of an earthquake on land. But were you ever curious about its impact on sea life?
It is unusual to witness an earthquake striking land beneath the water. However, during a recent expedition, some scuba divers were unlucky enough to be a part of it.
What happens during an earthquake underwater?
A video was shared on TikTok showing the divers going about their business and investigating the coral at the ocean's bottom.
Everything appears to be serene and beautiful, with fish swimming by and going about their regular activities. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, a massive current pulls the divers one way before throwing them in the opposite direction.
How did the video end?
Debris flies everywhere, as the divers urgently struggle to hold to anything. The video ends before we see everything return to normal, but it was enough to leave everyone on the internet stunned.
"Great, now I've added being in the ocean during an earthquake to my list of paranoia," one TikTok user commented.
Another person said: "Diver grabbed onto a rock as if he was the one moving when it was the ground moving and the water staying still that is insane."
"Wow, I've never even considered what it would be like to be underwater scuba diving during an earthquake!" wrote a third.
"Do the currents shift?" A fourth member of the audience said, "The way I have never considered that an earthquake would impact the ocean.. but like duh it would."
Where was the video shot?
According to Stuff, the film was shot in the Banda Sea, which surrounds Indonesia's Maluku Islands. The publication revealed that the earthquake was a 7.2 magnitude seismic event. Watch a similar video we found on YouTube since we can't watch TikToks in India.
