When it comes to nature and wildlife, there are bound to be surprises. In some ways, it doesn¡¯t even seem as shocking anymore. However, an alligator missing its top jaw is quite a shocking sight.
Stacey Lynette photographed a nine-foot-long alligator after seeing it swimming in the murky waters of the Everglades. Florida. The alligator was missing the entire top part of its jaw.
In the pictures, however, its bottom jaw and teeth and can be seen peeking above the water's surface.
In a Facebook post, Lynette wrote, "I saw this gator far away and he looked weird to me. I grabbed my camera and sure as sh*t, the whole end of his top jaw is missing. The photo quality is crap because he was really far away. By the looks of him, he's doing alright though."
The only likely explanation could be that the alligator got into a nasty brawl with a fellow gator. As per Newsweek, alligators often fight each other over mating rights and territorial disputes, especially during the mating season. The reptiles can get into vicious fights during this period of high tension, and they can seriously injure each other to the point of losing limbs and eyes.
Florida is home to more than one million alligators. and can be found across all of its 67 counties. They can grow to around 15 feet and weigh over 544 kg, living for between 30 to 50 years in the wild.
Last month, an alligator missing one foot was seen crossing a busy road.
The incident was recorded by Daniel Kaufman, who was in his truck when the reptile decided to cross the road. The video shows the reptile, with one front foot missing, crossing the busy road.
"We got a stray hog. Look at this beast. It's like a 10-footer," says Kaufman while recording the gator.
¡°Look at this beast,¡± Kaufman says as the slow-moving alligator halts oncoming traffic.
¡°Holy cow. What's up, bro? You go under my truck? And he's going under my truck. It's official. He is under the truck. Just move my truck-- are you kidding me?" says Kaufman while the gator gets under his vehicle.
Kaufman told Storyful the alligator shook the box truck. The footage recorded by Kaufman shows the gator emerging again from the other side of Kaufman¡¯s truck before continuing its journey.
