Chennai is still struggling with water crisis. Thousands of Chennai residents line up daily to fill cans of water from water tankers. Water resources are drying up at an alarming pace. The city metropolitan water supply and sewerage board is hoping that some out-of-the-earth options might help. The board tweeted to ISRO to look for resources of water on lunar surface.
While some parts of the country are flooded, Chennai is still struggling with water crisis. We know that every day, thousands of Chennai residents line up daily to fill cans of water from water tankers across the city. These queues are only growing by the day, with the city¡¯s water resources drying up at an alarming pace. There seems to be very little to no improvement in the situation in Chennai, so the city metropolitan water supply and sewerage board is hoping that some out-of-the-earth options might help!
When the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Board (CMWSSB) congratulated ISRO on the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2, they had a special request. The board tweeted to ISRO to look for resources of water on lunar surface.
A part of the tweet reads, ¡®We are in the process of augmenting new water resources for our city. If you find any water on the Moon, you know whom to call first.¡¯ The statement is accompanied by a wink emoji. So, we obviously know that the board was not serious, it was just trying to make light of the situation.

Talking about the reason for doing that, the team that handles the social media for the board, reportedly said that the move was meant to engage with public. Reportedly a team member said, "We want to break barriers and get in touch with people of Chennai in a lively manner, instead of issuing mechanical replies and statements.¡±
Twitterati approved of the tweet and was amused by it. People wrote that they were glad to see that government officials had a ¡®sense of humor¡¯.

Chennai Metro Water has been trying to tap as many water resources across Chennai as they can. Recently, the Metro Water officials received a rake which had 50 wagons of water. It came from Jolarpettai in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district, which is about 200 km away from the city.
The first train carrying 2.5million litres of water was received in Chennai on July 12. Technicians in the railway station at Jolarpettai, located over 217 km from Chennai, filled fifty wagons with 50,000 liters of water each, sourced from a south Indian river.
The city is supposed to receive two more such rakes which would supply a total of 10 million liters of water. Not that this water will be nearly enough to solve the crisis in the state, but we hope that it provides some relief.
