He revealed that after the intervention of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, the lion was returned to its owner on one condition - to keep it in a secure cage.
He added, 'The lion has been cruelly defanged and had its claws removed, but it is still a threat. Living in these conditions is also terrible for the welfare of the lion.'
Eventually dictator Hun Sen personally intervened to allow the lion to be returned to its owner as long as it was kept in a secure cage. Instead, it's wandering about outside in the upscale neighbourhood of BKK1. 3/4

Other than the fact that an unsupervised lion out on the streets is a danger to people as well as itself, this incident has also brought on the conversation about animal cruelty on social media.
One user wrote, 'That¡¯s my neighborhood! Man what if the lion gets loose and starts to attack people at the super duper.'
Another commented, 'This is indeed a good example of why you shouldn't allow people to keep lions as pets in private residences in the middle of a city. #phnompenh.'
'Ok I don't think I'm gonna walk around the neighborhood today,' wrote a third.
