A stunning photograph shows the moon surrounded by a celestial rainbow, as light reflecting off the silvery surface was split by water particles in the air.
The rare phenomenon was captured by an Italian photographer, Alberto Ghizzi Panizza, near the city of Parma. Known as a luna corona, the spectacle occurs when light reflecting off the moon is split by water particles or ice crystals in the air.

Panizza revealed that he had witnessed the phenomenon several times before, but he had never previously been able to photograph it.
After being forced to stay home due to coronavirus lockdown, the photographer finally had access to everything he needed to capture the moment when he spotted the rainbow again from his home.
He reportedly spent two hours photographing the phenomenon. With everything at his disposal, Panizza took full advantage of the moment and captured the stunning occurrence.

He said that between between 10:00 pm and 12:00 am, he took a few hundred photos of the moon that created halos, iridescences and crowns among clouds and veils.
The photograph captured the moon's craters with clarity, as a large ring of colour encapsulated it.
The incredible image featured an almost clear sky, with just a few atmospheric wisps of cloud. And, adding to the effect, stars can be seen glinting from inside the rainbow after Panizza's camera picked up every detail of the night's sky.
On Instagram, the photographer explained that the final picture was a ¡®blending of a good portion of these shots to emphasize the colors of both the corona and the lunar minerals¡¯.
Panizza¡¯s impressive snap has racked up hundreds of likes online, with social media users describing the scene as ¡®amazing¡¯.
