The
sun halo, also known as the 22-degree, occurs when the sun¡¯s rays get deflected through the hexagonal ice crystals present in cirrus clouds. The clouds are often really thin in density and these contain millions of tiny hexagonal ice crystals. The halo is visible due to the refraction and reflection of light through these ice crystals.
The sun halo was spotted in Dehradun on the afternoon of July 24.
Many people took to Twitter to share stunning images of the rare phenomenon.
Sun halos are generally considered rare and are formed by hexagonal ice crystals refracting light in the sky ¡ª 22 degrees from the sun. This is also commonly called a 22 degree halo.

This is not the first time sun halos have been spotted in the sky.
Sun halo appears in Hyderabad and Bengaluru
In June last year, a rainbow-coloured sun halo appeared in Hyderabad. The incredible phenomenon left locals impressed as they witnessed a rare phenomenon, a halo in the sky circling the sun.
A similar rainbow-coloured circular halo was also witnessed by the people in Bengaluru in May last year.
Earlier in January this year, arctic weather in the US played tricks above Minnesota skies as breathtaking photos of halos of light around the sun with incredible snowy backdrops and a bright blue sky went viral on social media.

Carol Bauer, an amateur photographer was out and about when he captured the phenomenon on his camera.
The temperature was -5¡ãC but the wind chill was -31¡ãC, and the sun dogs were visible after a strong blizzard the night before.
