Old Letter Finally Gets Delivered After 27 Years, But To The Wrong Person
It is not uncommon for packages and letters to get delayed in transit. All over the world, people experience delays in such deliveries, and it rarely happens that posted articles get to their destinations before their estimated delivery time. But one letter broke all records when it reached its destination after a long journey of 27 years.
It is not uncommon for packages and letters to get delayed in transit. All over the world, people experience delays in such deliveries, and it rarely happens that posted articles get to their destinations before their estimated delivery time. But one letter broke all records when it reached its destination after a long journey of 27 years.
Man Receives Letter That Was Posted Back In 1995
On January 13, John Rainbow noticed a letter from the previous century in his postbox, as per the news outlet Hexham Courant. What was curious about the letter was that it was from a time when the only primary mode of communication was either phone calls or letters. There were only a few internet users, and the thought of "hitting up" someone was never on anyone¡¯s mind. The letter was from 1995.
John soon found out that the letter was not addressed to him but was delivered to the last resident of the house. According to the letter's writings, it was posted in August 1995 from Bridgewater, Somerset, England.
John told the outlet, "We opened the letter, had a look at it and thought 'blimey, this is a bit strange', then we saw the date on the letter which was August 3, 1995, and couldn't understand how it's suddenly just arrived."
He continued, "On the back, it's got an Alnwick 1995 postage stamp. The original one is Bridgwater, Somerset from 1995 but there's one on the back from the day after and that says Alnwick 1995."
The Man Traced And Located The Letter Back To A Female Navigator
John noted that the letter was unexpectedly in "perfect condition." After opening and drifting through the letter, John found out that it was addressed to a family with roots dating back to the 1880s. It had some information about the writer¡¯s children. John then added, "It's very strange, we have no connection to the person that was here."
John revealed that he had no connection to the family's previous residents. He himself moved into the house back in 2015, making it hard to track down the owner of the letter.
After a lot of digging, they found out that the lady the letter was addressed to, Valerie Jarvis-Read, lived on John¡¯s property until recently, in 2010. A neighbour of the family shared some intel and revealed that Valerie was a navigator who had a husband who was a member of the forces in Le Mans.
John, though, believes that the recipient of the letter has passed away. John went on, "It would be nice to know the person who sent the letter has some relatives and for them to know it's finally arrived."
