Fantasy Taken Too Far? 3 Brothers Poke A Spider To Bite Them, Hoping To Turn Into Spider-Man
Three brothers aged eight, ten and twelve found a venomous black widow spider while they were watching over their sheep and provoked it to bite them in the hopes of turning into a superhero like Peter Parker.
Children can be easily influenced by what they see in movies and for them, the line between fantasy and reality is not always clear. Sometimes, it goes too far.
The latest example of this is of three brothers from Chayanta, Bolivia, who deliberately got a spider to bite them in order to turn themselves into Spider-Man. Three brothers aged eight, ten and twelve found a venomous black widow spider while they were watching over their sheep and provoked it to bite them in the hopes of turning into a superhero like Peter Parker, as reported by the Mirror.
Their mother was collecting wood at the time and the boys poked the spider with a stick before it got agitated and bit them.
Soon enough, the spider's venom started acting up and the three boys started suffering from symptoms such as muscle pains, sweating, fever and trembling. Their mother found them crying when she returned to them.
They were rushed to the Chayanta health centre where they were provided with medicines but their condition did not see any improvement. Afterwards, they were moved to a hospital in Llagallagua but their condition was still unstable. Then they were shifted to the Children's Hospital in the Bolivian capital of La Paz.
There they were given a serum for the venomous spider bites after which their situation finally improved. After a period of five days, they were discharged from the hospital to go home.
Head of Epidemiology of the Health Ministry, Virgilio Pietro, spoke about the incident at a coronavirus press conference and said, "For children everything is real, films are real, dreams could be real, and they (children) are the hope of our life."
Black widow spiders get their name from the fact that the female kills and devours the male after mating. They are not aggressive and only attack and bite when provoked, and even so, their bite is not fatal for human beings
