18-Year-Old Dies With Body Of A 144-Year-Old Due To 'Benjamin Button Disease'
Ashanti Smith passed away on July 17; she was suffering from from Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, an extremely rare premature ageing condition that saw her age eight years for every year of her life.
In a tragic incident, an 18-year-old girl from UK's West Sussex died after a rare case of 'Benjamin Button' disease left her with a body of a 144-year-old person. The young woman, Ashanti Smith passed away on July 17; she was suffering from from Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome, an extremely rare premature ageing condition that saw her age eight years for every year of her life.

Smith's family is in mourning while also recalling her as a 'strong-willed' person who loved the boy band BTS and sipping cocktails.
Her mother, Louis Smith said that her daughter was a kind girl and loved by everyone. She said that Ashanti touched everyone's heart with her kindness and willpower. Now, Louis wants to help other children suffering from Hutchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome. According to experts, this syndrome also causes severe heart problems, mobility issues and other complications associated with ageing.
According to Louis, Ashanti was very well-aware of her illness. She said, ¡°Ashanti was aware of the fact that she will not be able to live a long life due to her illness, She contended with it and lived a happy life. She always made people laugh and won everyone¡¯s heart with his positive words. We will always cherish her memories in our life."
She also said that despite having the body of a 144-year-old, Ashanti had a 'loud and beautiful' spirit and celebrated every moment of her life. Despite her serious illness, she was determined to be treated like any other teenager.
Ashanti is survived by her mother, father and 25-year old sister.
Louis is now reportedly planning a ¡®big¡¯ funeral with disco lights, BTS-covered coffin and Pride flags to honour Ashanti's life.
