Bihar Floods: Pregnant Woman Taken To Hospital In Boat Made Of Tyre Tubes & Wooden Planks
Coming to her rescue, villagers built a makeshift boat wooden planks and rubber tyres and waded through neck-deep waters to take her to the hospital.
Like Assam, Bihar is also grappling with heavy rains and water logged areas, making things twice as tough since the country is also dealing with a pandemic.
In a recent rescue effort, a pregnant woman had to be taken to the nearest government health care facility for delivery on a makeshift raft in Bihar's flood-hit Darbhanga district, reports Times Now.
In the video, the woman's mother could be seen holding her daughter as the raft swayed while it was being pulled. According to NDTV, after Darbhanga magistrate's office heard about the incident, a State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF) boat was sent for the women and her family.

The pregnant woman was made to sit on the boat by locals who pushed her all the way through the water. The video shared by news agency ANI was retweeted by Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal who appreciated the locals for helping the woman and also slammed the Bihar administration for their 'false promises.'

Darbhanga is one of the worst flood-affected districts of Bihar, which is witnessing extensive inundation this year and not even half the monsoon season is over. Most of the rivers in the region including the Baghmati, Mahananda and Khiroi are flowing above danger mark in Dhenga, Sitamarhi, Muzaffarpur, Hayaghat and Darbhanga districts, a water resources department bulletin said.

The COVID-19 pandemic is further complicating the situation in Bihar. In another viral video, a young doctor can be seen sitting on a plastic chair placed on the back of a green cycle-cart as he navigates flooded streets.

According to reports, the doctors at the COVID-19 care facility in the district have been relying on such cycle-carts to reach the medical facility where coronavirus patients are being treated.
Nearly 16 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in several districts in Bihar for flood rescue operations.
