10-YO Boy Walks 2,800 Km For 2 Months, From Italy To London, To Hug Grandmother In Lockdown
On their journey the two walked through Italy, Switzerland, France and the United Kingdom. On September 21 they reached the UK and are in isolation before finally meeting Romeo's grandma.
A lot of people could not see their loved ones for weeks on end, when lockdowns were imposed all over the world, as a preventive measure against COVID-19. Some people walked to their loved ones' houses and waved from outside, and others greeted them from a safe distance, once the rules were relaxed.
A 10-year-old boy, however, went above and beyond, to meet his grandma. He walked 2,800 km from Sicily, Italy, to London, UK, so that he could hug his grandmother.
On June 20, Romeo Cox, set off from Palermo in Sicily, along with his father Phil.

On their journey the two walked through Italy, Switzerland, France and the United Kingdom. On September 21, they reached the UK and are now in isolation, before finally meeting Romeo's grandma.
A part of their journey has been documented on their Instagram account. According to Romeo, all they have been through in the past three months will be worth it once he hugs his grandmother.

"We got lost a few times. We slept under a wasp nest which wasn't a good idea, got bloody feet, but we never thought about giving up. As we got closer I just kept thinking about seeing my Granny, and how excited I was. I can't wait to give her a cuddle, it's been over a year since I last saw her. She was all alone during the lockdown. I'm feeling tired now - like an old 100-year-old man - but it was so fun," LADbible quoted the boy as saying.
The walk also helped Romeo raise more than ?12,000 (Rs 11.4 lakh) for charity, Refugee Education Across Conflicts.
The duo took up walking, as planes were not operational in UK in June. "Even after quarantine, I thought walking might be a new experience. I asked my parents and they said no more than 50 times. Eventually they agreed - provided we planned everything was COVID-safe," he reportedly said.
Talking about the experience, Phil the dad said, "It was a special time and moment to share with my son and something we both shall never forget for all our lives. We got lost a lot, and up to all sorts of adventures. Some things we agreed never to tell mum.¡±

He also said that the journey was good for his mental health.
Now we are as eager to see the union between Romeo and his grandmother!
