¡®Good Looks Shouldn't Count': Chinese Company Asks Job Applicants To Wear Costume Mask In Interviews
Per a report in the South China Morning Post (SCMP), a video that went viral on the Chinese social media platform Douyin, both the candidate and the interviewer wore full-face masks.
In China, one company has received a lot of praise for its recruitment strategy. Applicants for a position at Chengdu Ant Logistics were reportedly ordered to wear complete face masks to the interview so that the company could avoid making decisions based on physical appearance.
Per a report in the South China Morning Post (SCMP), a video that went viral on the Chinese social media platform Douyin, both the candidate and the interviewer wore full-face masks.
The odd mask instruction, the outlet says, was issued during the company's semiannual job fair.
Candidate Zeng, who shot the video on February 3 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, southern China, and shared it online, claimed that she found the entire situation bizarre but added that "it may assist those with social anxiety."
Ms. Zeng claims that applicants were given blank masks and told to create anything they wanted. However, she did mention that there were other anomalies throughout the interview, apart from the mask.
Ms. Zeng said that one logistics company's employees had been assigned to cut and distribute sugar cane to the job seekers.
According to SCMP, the corporation has confirmed that the video was captured during the firm's semiannual recruiting fair, where candidates for roles such as new media operator, live-stream broadcaster, and data analyst are sought.
It reportedly said that it aimed to lessen the stress caused by interviewers by focusing more on the candidates' abilities than their appearance.
The logistics firm is being lauded on the Chinese social media app for "helping eliminate employment discrimination."
As per the outlet, one Douyin user wrote, "This is equality; good looks should not count." Another added, "As a person with social phobia, I would really enjoy such a job interview."
According to SCMP, Chengdu Ant Logistics conducts creative employment interviews. The organization allegedly had candidates hoe the park's lawn to assess their management and adaptability.
