Day-in and day-out, there are instances of police inaction. They have yet again come under the spotlight for all the wrong reasons post the Citizenship Amendment Act protest - with every video of lathi-charging and tear-gassing, we lost faith in the police force.
But it would be unfair to put them all in the same bucket - some of them actually go out of their way to make people's lives easier.
An Andhra cop named Kullayappa, went beyond his call of duty to help a pilgrim who fainted on the way to Tirumala. According to The New Indian Express report, the special party constable carried a woman pilgrim who fainted, while going to Tirupati Tirumala on foot.
Large numbers of pilgrims, led by Rajampet former MLA Akepati Amarnath Reddy were going to Tirumala on foot via Annamaiah pathway. When one of the pilgrims Bujji (20), fainted after walking, there were no vehicles available to transport. The special party constable Kullayappa carried the woman on his shoulders for four kilometres. Anburajan went on to get her admitted in a nearby hospital and made sure that she was treated for her illness.

Touched by his gesture, SP KKN Anburajan appreciated him and asked all police personnel to draw inspiration from Kullayappa and help people at all times.
In a similar incident, station in-charge from UP went out of his way to help an elderly woman who had lost her way. In October this year, Jai Kishore Awasthiwas on his way to inspect puja pandals along with fellow police personnel, when he spotted a frail woman.
The woman told Awasthi that she was unable to walk due to a fractured leg and had lost her way while using a wooden stick to walk. When she told the cops that she did not remember the way back home, Awasthi lifted her up and helped her sit in his car. He then carried her all the way to her house. A video of the same is doing rounds on social media platforms and touched a chord with people online.
Thanks to these few people, we can still say that there¡¯s hope for humanity.
