These were placed on the southwest corner of Bedford and Grove, close to the Little Owl restaurant. (It's worth noting that while "Friends" was primarily filmed in Los Angeles, the exterior shots of Monica and Rachel's apartment were done at 90 Bedford Street in New York.)
