Dogs are one of the most loyal animals. In fact, many would even argue they're better than humans - they are great secret keepers, loyal friends, amazing cuddle buddies and really good caretakers.
Take this dog, for instance, who rescued its owner from a sticky situation when there was no one to help. It is now being hailed a hero on social media as he led the police to his injured master. Pat Brennan of Portarlington, County Laois, was taking his puppy, Jack, for a walk on Monday evening when he stumbled and fell into a ditch, as reported in the Independent. He realised that he wouldn¡¯t be able to get back on his own.
The incident took place when Jack was scratching around and Brennan accidentally lost his balance and fell into a ditch. While describing his ordeal, he told the Independent, ¡°Jack was scratching around beside me, and when I went to move on again he kind of jerked the lead and knocked me off balance."
"I've had a stroke in the past so my balance isn't great, and I ended up falling sideways down the bank and out of view," he said. "I knew there was no way I could get out, and I also feared that Jack might just run off, because he's only a pup."
Despite being a pup, Jack didn¡¯t run off. Instead, he stayed by his owner¡¯s side, as Brennan called the emergency services from his cell phone. A local Gardai unit was sent to look for him. Gardai is the state police force of the Republic of Ireland. By this time, it was dark and Brennan was injured and trapped in the ditch.
Thankfully, his pup was there by his side. "After about 10 minutes I could hear a car going by, but there was no way for me to alert them or draw their attention to me. But then when they spotted Jack they knew I must be nearby," Brennan explained to the Independent.

"They were able to come to my aid because they spotted Jack whimpering on the road, and they called an ambulance to check me over." Brennan got some bruises and cuts after he fell but was able to go home after a medical checkup.
Meanwhile, the police praised Jack in a Twitter post, writing, ¡°Jack the Dog stayed by his side & showed Gardai where he was. Even when ambulance arrived Jack wouldn't rest unless he could see him!"
Man's best friend.

"Jack had followed me home from the shops one day about six months ago, and we fell in love with him," Brennan's wife, Melanie told Independent. "When nobody came for him, we got Jack as a rescue dog, and now he has repaid that favour by doing a bit of rescuing himself," she added.
