Rebel With A Pause: UP Groom Halts His Wedding Procession For A While To Be Part Of A Protest
The incident is of Sunday night in Uttar Pradeshs Mahoba district. The group has reportedly been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 10 days. Their demand for the setting up of a medical college in the district.
Many people think that protests are a waste of time. May be because authorities at times shun protests with all their power and more often than not they get their way, and not much comes out of people getting hurt and manhandled by the police.
However, all the major reforms in the history of the world are a result of protests - be it our freedom struggle, the Suffrage rights, recognition of the Blacks in America or the ongoing climate change protests. It is important to get our voices heard and to let the authorities know what the citizens actually need.
Probably keeping that in mind, and the fact that every voice counts, a groom in UP halted his own wedding procession for some time, to be a part of an ongoing protest.

"We have been on an indefinite hunger strike for the past 10 days now. Our demand is that a medical college should be constructed here. A groom was heading out for his wedding and when he saw us and after inquiring about our demands, he joined us for about half an hour," IANS report quoted one of the protesters as saying.
After being a part of the protest for sometime and sitting with the protesters, the groom then proceeded to his wedding which was reportedly happily solemnized.
It is disturbing that people have to sit on an indefinite hunger strike to have an educational institute constructed and the government has paid no heed till now. Something as basic as education is everyone's right, and the center and the state governments should encourage the construction of a college that would provide an opportunity for students to learn and grow.
Hope the attention the groom brought to the protest proves fruitful and authorities pay heed to the demands of the people.
