People Joined Hands To Help A 100-Year-Old Vegetable Cart Puller Support His Grandkids' Education
Internet and the Punjab government helped a 100-year-old vegetable cart puller by donating money to support him and his grandkids education.
Videos and images of a 100-year old from Punjab pulling a cart and selling potatoes and onions to earn his livelihood, went viral on social media a few days back.
This man is Harbans Singh, a centenarian from Moga, who pulls a cartload of vegetables to ensure his orphaned grandchildren get a proper education. He started doing so after his son passed away two years ago and his daughter-in-law abandoned her children. This is when he stepped up and started taking care of their children.
Sardar Harbans Singh ji is redefining dignity & resilience. He is 100+ and looks after his two grandchildren by himself. Pure respect. Safdar Harbans Singh ji is a great example. He is healthy at that age because he is still working, living a life of hard work, selfless service and honesty (#kirt #sewa) https://t.co/9FwXQRIWbf

According to a report, Harbans Singh was taken to the deputy commissioner¡¯s office where DC Sandeep Hans felicitated him. He said, "When I met Harbans Singh, I saw he was a contented man with no demand and was only concerned about the education of grandchildren."
People on the internet were glad to see Harbans Singh getting support.
Thank you for helping this incredible individual with an incredible mind and a will of steel that we can all learn from. We hope to document his memories for The @1947Partition Archive as he migrated from Lahore to Moga at the age of 27 in 1947.

Noble gesture! It is however expected from people at decisive policy making level to ameliorate the suffering of similarly placed individuals through a robust state mechanism, rather than individual support.
