After losing his 1.5 acres of farmland for non-payment of agricultural loan, Chandrashekar Gowda has made his car parked in the forest area and made the forest his adobe for nearly 17 years.
After losing his 1.5 acres of farmland for non-payment of agricultural loan, Chandrashekar Gowda has made his car parked in the forest area, near Sullia, Dakshina Kannada district, as his adobe for nearly 17 years.
Living an isolated life, Chandrashekar ditched civilization and retreated to the wilderness.
Reaching the man¡¯s abode isn't quite straightforward, as one has to walk 3-4 km inside the jungle to make it to where he has stationed his old white ambassador car, News18 reported. On the bonnet of the car, stands a very old but functional radio.
A lean man with strong limbs, half-bald head and no shave-no haircut, 2 pieces of clothes and a pair of rubber slippers on him, Chandrashekar has adjusted himself to life in the wilderness.
How did it come to this?
Chandrashekar had taken a short-term loan and two crop loans from Nelluru Kemraje Cooperative Society. Failure to return the amount made the Society initiate proceedings for auctioning his land.
In 2003, he took a loan of Rs 40,000 from a co-operative bank. He tried hard but couldn¡¯t repay the loan. So the bank auctioned his farm which left Chandrashekar broken.
Without shelter now, he took off to his sister¡¯s house in his ambassador car. After a few days, he had a rift with his sister¡¯s family and decided to live alone.
It's when his association with the jungle started, He drove away into the deep jungle and parked his favourite car there. He put a plastic sheet above to protect the car from rain and sun.
Thus, Chandrashekar has been living a solitary life for 17 years inside the car. He takes bath in the river that flows inside the forest. He weaves baskets using dried creepers around him and sells them off at a shop in Adtale village and takes the rice, sugar and other groceries in return.
His only wish in life is to get back his land. He has safely preserved all documents for the same.
