Delivery Guy Rides In On A Horse To Drop Off Orders Amid Heavy Snowfall & Roadblocks In Kashmir

With heavy snowfall in Kashmir snapping road and air links, normal life has come to a standstill in the valley. Many areas in the hinterland remain cut off even three days after it stopped snowing.

Record snowfall over the past week forced an Amazon delivery person in Srinagar to travel on horseback to deliver packages as roads were snowed under.

The unique delivery came to light after photojournalist Umar Ganie tweeted the video.

Many tagged Amazon CEO Jezz Bezos and wondered if the company was inspired by popular Turkish series Ertu?rul.

Apart from online deliveries, heavy snowfall prevented ambulances from reaching patients, forcing locals to carry the dead and ailing on their shoulders for many miles.

Amid this scenario, Jammu and Kashmir¡¯s lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday declared heavy snowfall in the Kashmir valley a natural calamity.

The declaration of heavy snowfall as a natural calamity will enable the administration to process claims for ex-gratia payments under the SDRF, bringing relief to the residents of snow-bound areas, reports HT.

J&K had experienced four days of heavy snowfall since Sunday, disrupting surface and air traffic and throwing life out of gear in the region.

The minimum temperatures plunged during the night again with the ski resort of Gulmarg in North Kashmir recording a low of minus 10¡ãC.

The mercury in summer capital Srinagar plunged to minus 4 degrees Celsius against minus 0.4 degrees Celsius on the previous night.

The valley is in the middle of a 40-day intense winter period called ¡®Chillai Kalan¡¯ which started on December 21 with sub-zero night temperatures across the region.The chances of snowfall are the most frequent and maximum during this period and most areas, especially in the higher reaches, receive heavy snowfall. Te temperature drops considerably leading to the freezing of water bodies including the famous Dal Lake.
