Break The Bias: Parents Share What They Are Doing To Teach Their Kids About Gender Equality

Even though the world celebrated International Women's Day with a lot of gifts and posts on social media, in real terms are women at par with the men in society?

Women's day is all about giving equity and equality to women. But in reality, is this the case?

According to a survey, 4 in 10 Indians still support traditional gender roles. Meaning, your mother still does the traditional household chores like washing the dishes, cooking. But men think this is not their job.

However, Indiatimes took the initiative and talked to a few parents and future parents who shared what they are doing to teach their kids about women's empowerment at home.

From sharing what their parents were like while raising them to how they will be, these new-age parents talked about it all.

A future father named Rohan Lalwani shared that he and his wife equally do all the household chores and don't think it is one person's job. He said this is what their child would also learn.

Some even talked about how they are working against the discrimination they saw at home. A woman named Sakshi Mathur said how her father always did miscellaneous jobs like changing the bulb and her mother sweep the floor or did all the cooking. She said that she will tell her child from the beginning that there are no specified gender roles.

They all talked about how change starts at home and they will do everything in their power to make their children understand that everyone is equal. They said that even though gender bias is engraved in all of us, they will have conversations to change that.

Great to see how people are coming forward to bring a change in society and break the bias.
